Michael's 1st Birthday Party and Summer Trip to Florida

We took Michael to Florida for a week to celebrate his birthday with family and friends.  I headed down with Michael first and he was very good on the plane.  He slept, woke up once for a bottle and then woke up again when we were almost landing.  Michael was very happy to be back in Florida in Gran and grandpa Kenny's big house with his dog friends Cheat and Valentine.
I had to add this picture because Michael loves ceiling fans, its so funny-
Here is Michael laughing so loud because the dog is running all around the house.  I don't think I have ever heard him laugh that loud.
My mom has a nice park across the street so Michael and I would go there in the mornings so he didn't wake the sleeping.  He's an early riser.
We spent time playing with Michael's cousins, who were excited that Michael can walk now.
We had a play date with Addison Weaver and Charlie Sharkey (unfortunately I don't have a picture playing with Charlie) it was a lot of fun.  Michael always enjoys playing with them and all of Addison's wonderful toys!
this video of Michael pushing Addison, and the table, is so funny as well-
Michael's birthday, June 20th, was very busy and his Daddy flew down at the end of the day!

We went to Boca Hoops to see Grandpa "Coach" Kenny-
Michael was not shy at all, he walked right in there and stared chasing after the basketballs.  I was worried he'd get trampled by the kids.
Here are some videos-

We took a trip to the park in the afternoon-

Then we went to pick up his Daddy from the airport!  When we got back Michael had a cupcake for his birthday-  I love this face!  (I make that same face for desserts!)

Michael's Birthday party on Saturday was wonderful.  Everything turns out great and I think Michael had a great time.  Here are a lot of pictures.  The theme was Sweet Safari.

There were people at the party too!

The party was so much fun.  Thank you everyone for coming out to celebrate our wonderful boy!

On The Cheap - Team Gear for Your Little One

Fall is quickly approaching and I have found myself scurrying to by Michael his second round of football team gear for the upcoming season.  This includes Buffalo Bills, Florida Atlantic University and University of Miami stuff and then we will head into college basketball, hockey...  it never ends because each year they grow out of last years stuff.  This leads me to my new desire to purchase pre-worn items this year.  The first year you get alot of team apparel as gifts and then you buy some yourself during the hemorrhage of cash during pre-baby spending that comes along with being pregnant, excited and idle (an expensive combo).  So, not to self mommy or mommy-to-be you can find great items on ebay and etsy and not shell out the more expensive prices of sporting goods stores and team apparel sites online.  Go Team and Happy Shopping!

Summertime Baby and Toddler Protection!

Summer time is here and I am sure every mom is trying to figure out how to protect your baby in the sun while still providing maximum fun!  As the mother of a just 1 year old I have been testing out different sunblocks and other sun protecting items to protect my little one who is very fair skinned.  Like a lot of children he refuses to wear a hat for very long so we do try to keep him in the shade as much as possible.
I really like the following sunblocks which are easy to apply to his body-

We recently started using the Coppertone mist.  Coppertone Babies line comes in a spray mist, a foam lotion, a regular lotion and a stick.  We did not start using this product on Michael until he was one.

After he was six months we used this pump spray into our hands and then applied to his arms and legs.

We also apply a titanium dioxide kids brand lotion to his face, neck and ears.  We re-apply Michael's sun block every 1-2 hours.

UV Protectant Clothing

For clothing we have seen all the baby rashguards they sell at the Gap and Old Navy but I thought it best to buy these from ebay because since we live in NYC our summers are limited and he will grow out of these quickly.  No sense in paying $10-$20 (cheapest) a shirt if he will only get to wear them a few times.  I found rash guards on Ebay 3 for $15 (includes shipping) and another one for $3.99 shipping included.  I am buying these a size bigger than his other clothes so it is not so difficult to get on or off when wet.
